Guide to Lipstick

Every girl that applies makeup everyday knows that your look simply is not complete with out your lipstick. Even though this maybe true most teenaged girls and many adults too go through life never thinking to apply lipstick unless necessary . And without a guide on how to appropriately wear lipstick it can be scary. Not knowing balance out you makeup you may end up saddening prom and wedding pictures for years to come in which you wrongly applied a combo like smokey eye and a red lip.

The first thing a girl needs to know about when it comes to picking out lipstick is their undertone of their skin. You fit into one of three categories: cool (pink, red or bluish undertones), warm (yellow, peachy, golden undertones), or neutral (a mix of warm and cool undertones). A way to find the undertone in your skin is to look at the back of your wrist where your veins are if they are blue you have a cool undertone if they are green you have a warm undertone (neutral is a mix of both). If you still can't figure it out take your jewelry and see which suits you better silver or gold. If silver looks good then you probably have a cool undertone and if gold looks better you probably have warm undertones. Now after that rant you are wondering... What does that have anything to do with lipstick? The lipstick that looks best on you is determined by your undertone. And even the same color lipsticks look very different depending on their undertone.

Now Some lipsticks thankfully come with undertones listed or when in a higher end store like Sephora or Mac you can ask for assistance in finding the lipstick with the right undertone. However, where most people will start off is in a drugstore the best tip to finding the right undertone is trying to determine if your lipstick has an orange base (meaning its warm) or if it has a blue base (if its cool). This is not as hard to spot as it seems in the pictures above it is very clear to see this characteristic of the lipsticks.

Another thing too watch out for when using lipstick is how it balances out with the rest of your makeup. This will come easy to someone who applies extremely neutral eye looks or maybe just a little bit of eye liner and mascara. This will allow you to apply any color lipstick to match the eye because it doesn't come across as too much and your lips can be the focus of your makeup. But for someone who does a more intense eye on a regular basis I believe it is best to keep a more nude or neutral lip for your skin tone. Again this is to balance your face accept leaving your eyes the focus. Now some of you may ask what a nude shade is. This is a shade that almost perfectly matches your lips but still enhances their overall appearance. These shades will also have undertones and the same rules apply with nudes like with a brighter lip color.

Now on the topic of the finish of a lipstick... There isn't much to say it's mostly based on personal preference. There are too many lipstick finishes to even list. Some lipsticks are matte and some are glossy. Some come with a glitter or a sheen to them. You can't really go wrong choosing a finish and its all based on what fits with your style.

Now that you know all the basics of lipsticks enjoy your new and improved pout!

P.S boys don't like when you kiss them while wearing lipstick
